Right to Request Teacher and Paraprofessional Qualifications

Dear Parent or Guardian:

 

Our school receives federal funds for Title I programs that are part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2016.

 

Under ESSA, you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s), and qualifications of instructional aides or paraprofessionals.

 

You have the right to know:

 

  1. Whether or not the teacher has met West Virginia’s licensure and certification requirements for the grade levels and/or subject areas in which instruction is required by the teacher;

 

  1. Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other provisional status through which state licensing requirements have been waived;

 

  1. The college major and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and,

 

  1. Whether your child is provided services by aides/paraprofessional, and if so, their qualifications.
